Mail: student2student@tcd.ie

Hi, my name is Selin. I’m a  first year PhD student in Psychology. I was born and was living in Turkey until moving to Dublin in 2017. I enjoy living in Ireland, spending time in the beautiful nature, doing yoga and meeting new people. I’m very passionate about traveling and reading about psychology. I did my master’s in Clinical Psychology in Turkey and have experience in helping people with relationship problems, depression, anxiety (social or general), cancer diagnosis and loss/bereavement. I became a peer supporter because I wanted use my experience to support other students and touching others’ lives always makes me happy. Whether you are struggling with adaptation to a different environment, academic concerns, relational concerns, or feeling like you’ve lost your direction, you don’t have to deal with these alone! I’m here for you if you want to talk about anything you have been going through, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I’m a third-year psychology student from the Midwest region of the USA (Chicago is the closest metropolitan area) and I moved to Dublin for my undergraduate studies. In addition to my international student status, I was also born with a unique medical condition resulting in bilateral deafness (I’m deaf in both ears) and blindness in one eye. I wear hearing implants to hear and I communicate through speech. However, my familiarity with disabilities are not limited to hearing and vision difficulties. I also have first-hand experience with clinically diagnosed mental, intellectual, and developmental conditions. I’m also a continuing Student 2 Student (S2S) mentor. In the 2019/20 academic year, I had the pleasure of being an S2S mentor for incoming (first-year) psychology students and I will also be mentoring in the 2018/19 academic year. As you can tell, I loved S2S mentoring so much that I decided to increase my involvement with the Student 2 Student service by becoming a peer supporter and joining the S2S committee as the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Representative (AHSS Rep). Although they are endless, some reasons why I became grew my involvement with the S2S service (consisting of mentoring, peer support, and the committee/sub-committee) was to continue providing unconditional support to students by giving a confidential and nonjudgmental space to be heard, valued, and validated. Everyone within the university has a unique story, yet I truly believe the best thing about peer support is allowing students to be heard, understood, and valued when no one else will listen. My biggest recommendation is to contact the service whether that be through peer support, your S2S mentor, or the Student Counselling Service (SCS). We are here for you.

Hey there ;) I am a 3rd year international student from Moldova! Guess where is that! :D I am forever that girl that enjoys travelling (18 countries so far) cooking/baking whenever I am free. I've set a personal record of preparing a pizza(rolling the dough and putting all the toppings on it) in 72 seconds! Can you beat that? ;) Contradictory to this fact once I spent 12 hrs baking/decorating a cake. Don't judge me :D , it was in a tank shaped one, it required loads of details haha. Weird facts huh? Oh well ... the word weird can be considered my second name :))

Hey! I'm Shaakya (a.k.a. Shake 'n Bake), a first-year PhD student and long-time sloth fanatic. I'm a third-culture-kid, having lived in India, Indonesia, the U.S., the Netherlands, and now Ireland. I hope to use this background, as well as my own struggles with mental health in college, to help other international and lgbtq+ students make their Trinity journey easier, but am of course eager to listen to anyone who needs to talk about issues such as depression, (social) anxiety, loneliness, burnout, confidence-building, and more. Other than researching, I love reading fiction, trying out new eateries, and discovering new parts of the city by accidentally taking the wrong transport routes.

I’m a third year English Literature and History student. My interests include reading, travelling and drinking (far too much) coffee. Since beginning college, I’ve experienced a myriad of testing situations: between moving away from home to transferring course to balancing a job with my studies. I became a Peer Supporter because I know how difficult it can be to have lots on your mind yet worry that no one will listen to you. You can bring any issue to S2S – I’m always up for a chat and willing to provide a non-judgemental, listening ear!

I am a third year Psychology student from India. I completely understand how scary and daunting being away from home and living in a completely new environment can be. It took me a year and a half to finally be at peace with my life in Dublin. If you ever feel the need for someone to hear you out with each and every problem you are facing or maybe just to rant a little, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m here for you!

Hi! I'm Aaron and I'm a second year Human Health and Disease student. I'm from a little town in Wexford called Killanne. You probably haven't heard of it but there's a rebel song about it (like a lot of places in Ireland). I spend most of my time reading, gaming, getting outdoors and taking photos of anything that catches my eye, oh and making neurones change shape, yeah they can do that! I'm so excited to be involved with the Peer Support service and I'll do my best to help in any way I can!

Hi, I'm Oran! I'm a third year MSISS student and I'm from Donabate in North County Dublin. My main interests are music and football (United fan so very much so hurting right now). I decided to get involved with S2S Peer Support after losing my father in first year so I know how difficult it is to face bereavement at university. Give me a shout if you need to talk about any problems you are experiencing - big or small.

Mail: student2student@tcd.ie

Hey, I'm Michael and I'm a Science student. I started Peer Support in the 2016/17 academic year, and I've found the experience extremely rewarding. I understand how beneficial talking to someone can be for anyone going through any sort of difficulty, and I'll always do my best to listen to you and support you in an open, respectful and non-judgemental way - this is your space. It takes a lot of courage for someone to open up about something that might be bothering them, no matter how big or small it might seem. As for areas of experience that might be of particular help to some students, I have experience going off books and transferring course (I moved to Science from History and Political Science in my second year). Of course, I'm just as open to talking about any other sort of issue that you might have. Other than Peer Supporting, I'm usually found doing other S2S stuff, running, watching Lord of the Rings or enjoying memes! Looking forward to meeting you :)

I am a third-year History and English Literature student and ardent coffee lover (addict). I can frequently be found reading, writing, making playlists, playing the piano and guitar, chatting to friends and I sometimes even make it to the library on occasion. I am originally from Dublin, but I moved to Switzerland when I was nine so I generally consider myself to have two homes. Having moved around a bit, I know how tough it is to be away from home whilst navigating the day-to-day challenges of college life and I have found a big rant can make a huge difference. I am a good listener and here for the chats and rants and coffee, so if you feel there is anything you would like to get off your chest I am always up for it.

I’m a second year Law student! My hobbies include taking pictures of my dog and drinking (way too much) coffee. I became a peer supporter because I’m well acquainted with listening to my friends when they need to rant (and I’d like to think I’ve gotten pretty good at it), so I’d love to help out fellow students too! As I said, I’m a massive fan of coffee, so I’m always up for a cuppa and a chat xx

Heya, I'm Luke! I'm a Senior Freshman Science student and the proud guardian of two Jack Russell Terriers, Hops and Barley. I have personal experience with coming out and other LGBT issues, but whatever you want to talk about, it's welcomed with S2S. Also I've been told I have a calming voice so that's definitely a bonus.

My interests include procrastinating work by watching far too much netflix and showing people pictures of my dog. College can be very tough at times for a variety of reasons, but I find talking to someone has really helped me in my time at Trinity, so hopefully I can do the same for someone else! I’m always up for a chat and I believe a problem shared is a problem halved!

I am currently a second year Pharmacy student who is determined to give back to the College Community. I am an approachable, friendly and helpful individual. These are the qualities that prompted me to become a Peer Support. I also acknowledge that University can create challenges for people and/or make things extra overwhelming for some. I want to be there to show my peers and fellow students that there are students to speak to in confidence. Peer Support is a wonderful service that Everyone should be aware of. I love watching movies (and a Game of a thrones Super Fan!!!), baking, traveling, reading and getting to know people and having conversations.

I got into Peer Support because I find talking to friends and other college students the best when I have any issues and the idea of someone being trained to listen sounded wonderful. Hi, I'm Dan, and my friends tell me I'm nice. I'm a Tipp man in second year of science. Some of my past-times include going to the gym, heading to the cinema, being really awkward towards servers in restauraunts, and questioning what I'm doing with my life. When I'm not in college I'm hanging with my dog back in Tipp (she has a great sense of humor). I'm a bit of a caffeine addict at times so if you ever want to meet up with me over a coffee and chat about anything that's on your mind I'm your man!

Hiya, I'm Ellen. I am a third year Science student best known for her (terrible) puns, (rambling) stories and (embarrasing) dance moves. Originally from Limerick, I'm living away from home, and so am familiar with the many challanges of adapting to Dublin and college life.I love music, reading, binge watching netflix, and all things procrastination. I also love to debate/rant about food, health and the environment.I am addicted to tea, so if you'd like a cuppa and a chat I'm always willing to listen without judgement, and eager to help in whatever way I can.

Hi there, my name is Hazel (she/her) and I am a third year TSM English and Sociology student. I can usually be found reading (crying into a book..), cycling from one place to another (I swear I am always in transit), watching the worst possible shows on Netflix, travelling (when I have the money!), or attending to one of my various college activities (S2S and QSoc being top of the list!). Some “fun” facts about me: I hate olives and tomatoes, I have lived in Australia, and I have worked in literally every entry-level job except for retail (because for some reason shops never hire me), and I am obsessed with dog groups on Facebook. I am always up for chatting about anything, but I do also have personal experience with adjusting to college social life, figuring out how to write college-style essays, LGBT+ issues, and coming out. College can be amazing but sometimes you just need someone to grab a coffee and have a chat with to get things off your chest. Peer supporters are here for any issue, big or small, so come have a chat!!

Hey! I'm a third year student sof TSM Maths and Psychology- I guess you could say my class is quite tightly knit, in that I am the only person in it. I moved to Tipperary from Poland at the age of six and (according to some) managed to acquire a Scandinavian accent somewhere in between those two and Dublin. I own too many cacti and nowhere near enough cats, which I hope to remedy by one day fulfilling my life-long dream of becoming a crazy cat lady. Whether it's documentaries about Scientology (I have watched many), The Great British Bake-Off or something more serious, there's absolutely nothing you cant come chat to me about!

Hi, I’m Ellie! I am a second year medical student from New Jersey, USA. I have a previous degree in psychology, chemistry, and medical sociology and since I clearly loved college so much, I decided to basically never leave and signed up for another go here at Trinity. Woo! In addition to learning about random diseases, I love to run (read: slow jog), travel (my to-go bag is always ready), horseback ride (no, the horse doesn’t do all the work), read (and reread) anything from Lord of the Rings to Outlander to The Notebook, and watch football (aka: coaching from the couch). I have particular experience with college adjustment, moving/living abroad, and spirituality questions, but am more than happy to discuss whatever may be on your mind. As Lady Liberty says, “Give me your concerns, your quirks, your stress”…or something to that effect…. either way, Peer Supporters are here with you. Let’s chat!

Andrew Hamilton - Peer Supporter

Andrew Hamilton

Peer Supporter

Mail: student2student@tcd.ie

I'm a fourth-year student with a tendency to spend money I don’t have on things I don’t need. My interests centre around books, movies, travelling, and pretty much anything to do with dogs. Being an extroverted introvert, I thrive when sharing stories and having one-to-one conversations with people from all walks of life. I have insight into the challenges associated with starting over in new social environments, coming out, mental health issues, and relationships. Juggling friends, jobs, family, and academics is hard, there are no two ways about it. As a peer supporter, my goal is simple: to listen and offer emotional support in a stress-free environment to whoever needs to take a step outside of the chaos of everyday life. Our time at university carries the opportunity to conduct self-exploration and to embrace new and, oftentimes, daunting experiences. We all struggle in different ways but no problem is too huge to talk about. So if you feel like having a chat, I'm a non-judgemental, open-minded guy who is more than happy to oblige.

Hi, I'm Jack. I am a second year psychology student (still low-key sceptical of the field). I hail from a sleepy little village in Cork, which made moving to the Big Smoke quite... the experience. My interests have changed dramatically since starting college but we can reminisce about teen discos and 20 cent Freddos. I am well aware of the struggles that people can face when adjusting to college life. I have experience with disability, mental illness and LGBT+ issues, and I’m happy to lend an ear to whatever problem you have!
