What is a Peer Mentor?
A Peer Mentor is a student volunteer who can remember from personal experience what it's like to come to College for the first time, or to come back to College after a break from education. Mentors train with S2S so that they can work with first year students. A mentor is someone a student can ask if they have a question, someone they can meet casually if they want a chat and someone in charge of arranging social events so that students can meet and get to know other students on their course.
Your mentors will meet you in Fresher's week and host your first group meeting straight away. They will be in regular touch with you by email and will arrange group meetings/activities throughout the first term.
Attendance at mentor group meetings isn't compulsory, but it is strongly recommended! A lot of students tell us at the end of their first year that they thought they were too busy to meet with their mentors, and then really wish they'd taken the opportunity to do it. Some of the students who do make use of the service say they meet some of their best friends through the mentor groups, and a lot more of them come back to S2S as volunteers after their first year so that they can stay involved.
